EMPLOYEE SHARE OWNERSHIP CELEBRATED
The winners of the World Esop Centre’s 2017 world employee share ownership awards were announced last night, (Tuesday October 31), at a stylish black-tie reception and dinner at the Reform Club in London’s Pall Mall.
The flagship, most creative share plan solution, award went to technology giant Google.
The expert judges praised Google’s “Fractional Share Programme”, which gave employees the choice of receiving a fraction of a Google share, or a cash refund.
Google director of global equity management Jennifer Kirk reacted: “Alphabet/Google is honored and humbled to receive this award…
“The Fractional Shares program has been extremely well-received at our company and employees are thrilled to be able to maximize the Alphabet shares they retain after each vesting event.”
Many of the world’s most enlightened companies, which offer shares to all employees, were recognised at the awards ceremony.
The submissions were judged by share plan experts: Anna Watch of BT, Damian Carnell of Willis Towers Watson, Stuart Bailey of Whiteoaks Consulting and Centre founder, Malcolm Hurlston CBE.
Finnish multinational Nokia won the best all-employee international share plan award. Energy company Valero claimed best all-employee share plan award.
Telefonica was awarded best share plan communications. Best use of video communication went to Amadeus IT Group.
The Esop Centre is a non-profit members’ organisation, based in London, which promotes all-employee share ownership worldwide.
Esop Centre chairman Malcolm Hurlston CBE, praised the employee share ownership industry for being ahead of the game in tackling disparities in wealth and challenged the UK government to promote employee share schemes more effectively: “not by bread alone”.
Mr Hurlston told guests: “Companies perform better when workers are shareholders as well as employees. Good employee share plans like yours give companies a productivity advantage over their competitors.”
